New Furniture

Everyone knows you can have a bed bug introduction caused by used furniture, but most people don’t realize how easy it is to have an introduction caused by NEW furniture.

The other day I have a customer tell me their new mattress came in a truck they were going to put their old mattress in, but they refused to take it because they saw small bugs they thought were bed bugs.  I ended up ID’ing the bugs as varied carpet beetles.

I was concerned the delivery company was going to put old mattresses in the same truck with new mattresses, and she told not to worry, that’s why they wouldn’t pick up her mattresses.

Well I am worried and this is why:  Furniture delivery drivers do not know how to identify bed bugs (especially if they don’t know the difference between a bed bug and a carpet beetle), and they apparently don’t realize how easy it is to not see the evidence of bed bugs on a box spring that has bed bugs that they are loading into their truck.

It’s very important, that if you’re going to have furniture delivered, you ensure they delivery new furniture in a separate truck than the one they pick up old furniture in.  Even then, you might want to have your new furniture inspected by a trusted pest control professional.
